2015-16 Flumist Availability

The manufacturer of FluMist, Medimmune, announced that there will be 50% less of the nasal influenza vaccine available this season.  The reason for this reduction is that some of the lots of FluMist tested outside of the normal specifications and therefore may be ineffective. As a result, our office will get very limited shipments of FluMist for the months of October through December. We cannot guarantee that we will have FluMist available for prescheduled appointments.

Please note that this issue only affects specific lots of FluMist; no lots that were previously released or that are due to be released are affected. There is no need for concern if your child has already received a dose of FluMist this season.

Because there is no shortage of the injectable flu vaccine we recommend getting the flu shot instead.

We appreciate your understanding of the FluMist shortage and will do our best to assure your family is protected from influenza this season.

Summertime Safety

Our office recommends an annual flu vaccine for all persons age 6 months and older including teens and parents.  Students often miss seven or more days of school when ill with influenza.  From a practical family logistics perspective, avoiding influenza will prevent schedule hassles and family stress by keeping your young person healthy and in school
